News from the Women's Sports Committee-July 2016

It's been a busy month on the ladies schedule!  We hosted nearly 80 women from area courses for an evening of golf on June 29th.  Around 4:00, just as many players were arriving, the skies darkened and the wind tore in from the west dropping torrential rain and hail.  By five, the sun was shining and we were heading out for play.  It was a fun evening of golf followed by a great chicken barbecue prepared by Garafano's.  We received many compliments from our visitors on the course, the PPCC hospitality, and the food!

Play concluded in the Presidents Cup competition on July 4th.  Congratulations to Kristin Shaeffer who was the overall winner!  JoJo Valente was in second place and Winnie Denis was third.

PPCC hosted 77 players, including several of our own members, for Ladies State Day on July 5th.   Everyone seemed to have a great time and really enjoyed the course conditions.  We are always one of the more popular stops on the ladies circuit!

We are getting great participation in State Days.  Several of our members including Nancy Murphy, Winnie Denis, Deirdre Morris, Liz Fothergill, Lynn Colomb, and Mary Lou Cameron have earned points so far.  Lynn and Laura Sarault played their first events this month. Liz Fothergill was blessed to get her first hole in one ever at the Neshobe State Day!   Liz and Lynn recently competed in the Vermont Seniors Championship at the Country Club of Barre.  Best of luck to Nancy Murphy, who will tee it up at the Vermont Amateur Championship at Green Mountain National.  Thank you to all of these players for representing the club so well around the state.

Wednesday nights continue to be well attended.  We've been blessed with good weather, fine playing conditions, and great food.  If you haven't come out yet, we still have several weeks to play and we'd love to see some new faces join us!  The sign up is on the upstairs board near the pro shop.  Play begins at 5:00 so plan to arrive early to sign in and catch up with friends.

Play is underway in the Seniors/Super Seniors/ Legends Tournament.  If you've signed up, you have until August 28th to complete your three rounds.  Tournament cards must be picked up and signed by the Pro Shop prior to play and returned to the Pro Shop when you finish your round.  Good luck and good golf to all participants!

There are 42 teams registered for the Ladies Member Guest Tournament which will be held on Saturday, August 6th.  This years theme is PLAY LIKE AN OLYMPIAN!  That should ignite some great competition out there among the ladies.

It doesn't seem possible that Labor Day could be this close, but the application deadline for the Club Championship is coming up Wednesday, August 10th.  Qualifying for the Championship Flight begins August 15th and must be completed by August 28th.  This is always a great weekend of golf.  If you've never played before, talk to someone on the committee or one of your playing partners to get more information.

Thank you to Joan Eaton who organized a flower bed work night this month.  90 degree heat cannot stop the gardening crew from making our course look so beautiful.  All of the plantings are looking pretty amazing right now-so a big thank you to all!!

There's still a lot of summer left, so let's all get out there and enjoy it!  Play with someone new, play a weekend tournament or join us for Ladies Night!   Just think of the points you'll be accruing-you could be the first Queen of Clubs!!
