10 Spring Golf Tune-Up Tips

The days are longer. The sun is shining. It really is happening.

Winter is on its last leg, I think. The season is about to begin. But, as the grounds on some local courses continue to thaw, there’s work to be done to get you prepared for your big return. Here are 10 tips to get you golfing this year.

1.) Get in “golf” shape – With any luck, you’ve stayed trim and fit this winter. If you haven’t, don’t fret. There’s still time. The easiest thing to do is to get out and walk, especially if you’re a walking golfer. Next step, get your wind up with a nice jog or walk up stairs. If you’re a gym-goer, continue with the program you set for yourself.

2.) Get fitted – You may be looking for new clubs — either a driver, fairway wood, hybrid or an entire set of irons..Taking the time to be fitted will enhance your golfing experience with the right clubs for this season.

3.) Re-grip your clubs – If you’re all set with your sticks, give them a fresh set of grips. It's easy to replace your grips, find the best style grip to fit your game and John and his staff will be happy to accommodate you..

4.) Hit the books – Before you hit the links, hit the books. Make sure you brush up on the most recent rules changes.

5.) Plan your season – Most golfers have a ‘bucket list’ full of golf destinations.  Why not make a more realistic list for the year? Pick new courses in your area or ones in your region you’ve always wanted to play.

6.) Get competitive – Whether you’re a scratch golfer or a 20 handicap, the game can sometimes be much more fun with the pressure of competition. Join a weekly local league or research the best net or gross tournaments in your area. Meet and play other golfers with an appetite for competition.

7.) Hit the range – Of course, this sounds like an obvious tip for golfers getting ready for the season. But it’s easy to go to the range and waste your time. Instead, practice with a purpose. Use one of the many recent tech products to help improve your swing and your game.

8.) Set Goals- Set realistic goals for the 2020 season. Pick 3 goals and try to reach 2 of the 3. If you do, you have had a successful golfing season. By the way, the key is realistic goals.

9.) Take it EASY – The first few times out we all want to play as many holes as we can. Over doing it only leads to frustration, muscle strains and may lead to shutting you down for a few days. Remember to stretch and relax as it the beginning of a great season.

10.) Dress up – If it’s early in your season, you’re going to want to dress appropriately to be ready for any weather that may come — hot, cold, wet or dry.Under dressing is as bad as overdressing. Make sure you wear the right stuff.

Please fix your ball mark and one other.
