Mind Boggling Slow Play Math

This is our busiest time of the year and it only takes ONE group to slow the whole course down behind them.

Think of the domino effect it has. And they may not necessarily be beginning golfers. If they are each wasting just 10 seconds of time with each shot, then what can that hurt? Lots -- keep on reading.

Think about this. If 4 golfers average 85 strokes for the round, that’s 340 strokes. If they each waste 10 seconds per shot with some of the typical time-wasters below, that’s 3400 extra seconds or 57 minutes per round. That’s nearly a wasted hour of their time and yours.

Typical time wasters that most golfers are unaware of that are burning up time are:
* chitchatting to each other about nothing in particular when one should be hitting,
* wondering if the club in hand is the right one for this shot,
* not being ready to hit when it is your turn,
* overthinking a putt and looking at it from all angles,
* taking too many practice swings,
* checking messages on your phone when you should be on the tee.

And time wasting backs up every other group following: 17 slowed-up foursomes x 4 golfers each = 68 players x 57 minutes = 3876 minutes divided by 60 minutes = 64.5 hours or over 2 1/2 days “total” extra time…..caused by “just 10 seconds” wasted by that first “unknowing” foursome.

Slow golf is selfish golf. It makes the entire course behind play at a snail’s pace. We all have been victimized by this type of slow round. Do your part to not be part of the problem. Be cognizant of idle chatter and other time-wasting actions mentioned above so you aren’t guilty of these simple acts that contribute to slow play.
