News from the Women's Sports Committee-September 2016

As September begins to wind down and the hot days of summer are replaced by cool, frosty mornings, crisp sunny days and early sunsets, it's a great time to celebrate the end of the competitive golf season.

On Labor Day weekend, 20 ladies competed for the club championship in three flights.  A big congratulations to the overall winner of the championship flight and ladies club champion, Kim Levins. As the other matches were concluding on Monday afternoon a large gallery watched as  Kim prevailed in a tough match over eventual runner-up Deirdre Morris.  JoJo Valente and Kristen Shaeffer battled to a tie in the Consolation Match.  In the first flight, Cheryl LeBlanc outlasted runner-up Maggie Rafter in a spirited battle.  Dayle Wheeler was the winner of the consolation round.  In the second flight, Sally Leonard was the winner over runner-up Mary Eaton.  Playing in her first club championship, Peg Lucci won the consolation match.  Congratulations to all of the players who competed this year!

Summer play concluded with a fun four by four match followed by our annual banquet on September 14.  Thanks so much to the staff of Garafano's for providing us such great meals and service throughout the year!  We had several year end awards to hand out.  JoJo Valente was named the winner of the Most Improved female golfer.  Congratulations!  All those early mornings on the course surely paid off!  Several ladies completed ringer cards tracking your best score on each hole throughout the year.  Cash awards were handed out to the winners.  Sarah Laderoute was the tops on the birdie tree this year and Pat McGee presented the coveted "Tree-Tree" award to  Celine Aprilliano.

A special gift of thanks was presented to Sue Jern for organizing the popular Friday play days.  Speaking of coveted awards, this year the sports committee created a new award known as the "Queen of Clubs"  to recognize the person who compiled the most points for participating in club sponsored events.  Points could be awarded for Ladies Night, club sponsored tournaments and weekend tournaments.  Additional bonus points were given for posting scores throughout the season.  It is with pleasure that we announce Sally Leonard as the inaugural Queen of Clubs!  Every Queen must have a court, and this years court was comprised of Maggie Rafter, Nancy Murphy, Liz Fothergill and Laura Wallett.

Thank you all for embracing this new award and please pass on your congrats to Sally when you see her!  Thank you again to Pat McGee for being our banquet photographer.  The 2016 ladies photo is now on display in the locker room.

Due to the many requests we have had for continued play opportunities, we are planning a fall eighteen hole event.  The "Turkey Trot", will be held on October 15th and will be organized for teams of four.  It will most likely be an early afternoon shotgun start, but since we are still in the planning stages, keep an eye on your email  or check the ladies locker room for details.

Although the competitive season has ended, there is still a lot of golf to play.  I hope everyone gets out to enjoy the beautiful colors that will soon be on display.  The ladies committee would like to thank John Ojala and his staff for all of the work they do each and every day, as well as for the special help preparing the course for our tournaments.  Thanks also to John, Reggie Colomb and Dave Lambert for doing our scoring this year.  Finally, thanks to all of the ladies who planted and maintained the beautiful flower beds and boxes which still look amazing!

The ladies enjoy a little post-competition play after the Ladies Member-Guest recently.

A Special Message from one of the Ladies of PPCC:

A big thank you to the 2016 Ladies Sports Committee for a great season!  We had organized, fun tournaments, well-attended ladies nights and excellent communications throughout the summer.  Every event went smoothly, the result of hard work and a big time commitment.  Thanks Nancy, Lynn and Lizzy for a very fun summer!
